The 1st edition of Anren Biennale has been opened to the public on 28th of October 2017 in the ancient town called Anren near the chief town of Sichuan Province, Chengdu. Curated by a group of art critics and curators including Lv Peng, Marco Scotini and Lan Qingwei etc., its main exhibition site is located in the abandoned Ningliang old factory with the theme of Today’s Yesterday, which is tightly connected to the current cultural situation and the future development of Anren.
The Exhibition is composed of 4 units, namely The Szechwan Tale: Theatre and History, Crossroads, A Future that Never Returns and Rhetoric of Genealogy, of which the last two parts will be available to visit in the extended period of the exhibition. The whole exhibition presents to the visitors art works from more than 140 artists from China and other zones of the world.
A part from Ningliang old factory, some other ancient buildings and areas, such as Street of the republic period, Residence of Liu Wenhui, Museum Cluster of Fan Jianchuan have been chosen as extra sites of the exhibition.
